Mr. Ibis and I went out to dinner last night for our anniversary and left Miles with my sister-in-law, her kids, and her parents. Miles has been babysat before, once by Judy in the evening and once by this same Auntie during the day. But the time is ripe, developmentally, for separation anxiety and fear of strangers (or even relatives). And he was definitely pretty nervous when we left him there.
Our dinner was awesomely delicious and we ate in record time, not on purpose, but I guess we've just become accustomed to wolfing down dinner so that the needs of the baby won't interrupt our chow time. It's a little embarrassing but we seriously ate an appetizer, dinner, and dessert in under an hour. Eek. Then we walked around in the cool night air for 15 minutes and chatted a little before heading back to pick up Miles.
When he saw us walk in the door he was sitting on his Aunt's lap and he gave his little half-crazed laugh like he couldn't quite believe his eyes - WE CAME BACK FOR HIM! Apparently he was kind of unhappy for the two hours we were gone and kept bursting into furious tears, calming down again, crying again, etc. Poor little buddy. I am sure he was in good hands and we weren't gone for long, but it was good to get him home and snuggle into bed.
